Installing a New Outdoor A/C Unit:

Posted on: February 9, 2012

If the compressor or coil goes bad in your outdoor A/c unit can a new outdoor unit be installed on your existing air handler? Recent changes required by the federal governments have limited your options. Effective January 2006 all air conditioning equipment was required to meet a 13 SEER efficiency rating (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating). The new 13 SEER units are engineered to match with newer 13 SEER indoor air handling units. Because of this change, the majority of the time just replacing the outdoor unit cannot be done without voiding the manufacturer’s warranty. To get a warranty and correct operation, you may have to put in all new equipment. Make sure you know all your options before purchasing just an outdoor unit.
