Proper Unit Size
Determining the proper size unit for a house is accomplished by doing a load calculation. A load calculation takes into consideration the type of floor (wood or slab), the type of windows (singe, double, or tinted), the ceiling height, type of walls, square footage of the house, type of insulation and many other variables. The end result is a BTU total. The cooling BTU total represents the number of BTUs that are gained by a house in a one hour period based on a particular outdoor design temperature. Unit size is important because a unit that is too small will not do the job properly and a unit that is too large will run too short a period of time and not remove enough humidity from the house.
