The Jacob Story

In 1921 a man named Rudolph Jacob transported a wooden sheet metal break from Iowa to DeLand, Florida, and began doing business installing metal roofs, copper building facades, gutter work, and warm air heating ductwork. At that time metal was shipped down the St. Johns River and received at the Beresford settlement on the east side of Lake Beresford. It was the beginning of Jacob Sheet Metal Works, which still serves West Volusia County to this day.

Over the years Jacob Sheet Metal Works gained a solid reputation for custom sheet metal work. As the industry evolved the firm expanded to include more fabrication of sheet metal ductwork for central heating.

Paul Jacob joined his father in the firm when he returned from the U.S. Army Air Corp shortly after World War II. Another son, Ervin Jacob, joined the company after retiring from the U.S. Air Force, and worked there until 1977. This second generation built Jacob Sheet Metal Works into a thriving DeLand enterprise throughout the 1950’s & 1960’s, and began concentrating primarily on heating & air conditioning equipment, along with duct work.

Paul Jacob’s son, Robert, joined the firm in 1974, after serving his country in the U.S. Army. Now president of the firm, Robert Jacob holds a State Class A Contractors license, an Associate of Science Degree in Heating and Air Conditioning from Daytona Beach Community College, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University.

Robert Jacob is known to his many friends and associates as a fair and honest businessman, as well as a community-minded citizen deeply interested in the development and prosperity of the greater DeLand area. He is involved with his church, and is a member of the Florida Air Conditioning Contractors Assoc., the Volusia County Air Conditioning Contractors Assoc., and has served on the advisory board for the heating & air conditioning department at Daytona Beach Community College. But first and foremost Robert is a family man, devoted to his wife, Kim, and their two children, Clinton and Jennifer.

After 90 years our sheet metal shop remains an integral part of the DeLand business community. We are able to fabricate custom designs in light gauge galvanized sheet metal, aluminum, copper, and stainless steel. Most work is done for the various industrial and commercial businesses in our area, but we also take small jobs across the counter at our shop. The company has evolved along with the industry in the area of ductwork, which now includes fiberglass duct. However, having the capability to incorporate sheet metal ductwork into residential and commercial installation enhances both the quality and durability of the job.

In 1998 Jacob Sheet Metal Works took a major step forward and developed a separate branch of the business, called Jacob Heating & Air Conditioning. This decision proved successful. It clarified the company’s position in the marketplace as a full service heating and air conditioning company.

Jacob Heating & Air Conditioning specializes in offering top quality, high efficiency replacements of older heating & air conditioning equipment. Units manufactured in the 1980’s need to be updated with more efficient equipment. There is a relatively short payback on the investment. The new equipment on the market today uses nearly 50% less electricity than the 15-20 year old still operating in many of our homes and businesses.

The recent development of alternative R410A refrigerants, safer for the atmosphere has become an industry standard. We are looking towards the future and sell this new type of equipment, which is extremely efficient. Our people are trained in its service.

Jacob Heating & Air Conditioning is a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer. We also sell and service all major brands of heat pumps, air conditioners, oil, and gas furnaces. Our company has developed a rock-solid reputation for service after the sale. Robert Jacob takes a personal role in each installation of new equipment. He takes pride in making sure your individual needs are met, and that you are satisfied.

Maintenance plays a critical role in the optimum operation of your a/c equipment. Jacob Heating & Air Conditioning offers a Planned Maintenance Agreement. We recommend at least two scheduled inspection and tune up visits a year for your system, to help it maintain its efficiency… the key to lower operating costs. Our Residential Planned Maintenance Program also includes a 10% discount on emergency repairs, and no overtime rates until 9:00 p.m.

The best part of our company’s history is our continued commitment to you, the customer. We are proud to offer quality workmanship, at a fair price. That concept has remained the same for over 90 years.

Our sheet metal shop, NATE certified technicians, equipment installers and office personnel are all dedicated to customer service.
